Walnut Creek, California
You have had all the information for months.
Leave the job. Sell the house. Say the thing. You have researched it thoroughly, taken advice from everyone and made no move whatsoever, and the not deciding is now costing more than either option would.
This might be you if
- You have asked eleven people and they cancelled each other out
- You keep gathering information you do not need
- You feel relief and then dread within the same hour
- There is a version of this you are not saying out loud
More information will not do it
If it would have, it would have by now. Decisions of this kind stall because something is at stake that is not on the list you are weighing, and it is usually not the money.
Finding the real objection
Almost always there is one sentence underneath it that you have not said aloud, sometimes not even to yourself. What people will think. What it means about the last ten years. Whether you are allowed to want this. Once it is spoken the decision is frequently obvious within the hour, which is disconcerting.
Then the practical part
Coaching is the forward facing half of my work: what you actually want, what is genuinely in the way, and what happens on Monday. Sessions are ninety minutes because this is not a conversation that goes well when it is rushed.
How I would work with this
Not deciding is a decision. It is just one you did not get to choose.
