Before you book
What actually happens, start to finish.
Most people who write to me have never done anything like this and would quite like to know what they are walking into. Here it is, plainly.
Before the first session
We speak for fifteen minutes at no charge. That call is not a sales conversation. It is to hear what is going on, tell you honestly whether this is something I can help with, and say so if it is not. I would rather send you to the right person in fifteen minutes than take your money for six sessions.
The first ninety minutes
We spend the beginning on what brought you and, more usefully, on when it started. Then we work. I do not run a fixed protocol regardless of the person in front of me, so what we use depends on what is actually there: eye movement work, Brainspotting, hypnotherapy, or straightforward coaching if the issue is a decision rather than a wound. You will usually do some real work in the first session rather than only talking about doing it later.
Why ninety minutes and not fifty
Because deep work does not schedule itself around the clock. Fifty minutes is frequently just enough to open something and not enough to close it, which sends people home unsettled. Ninety minutes lets us reach it and come back up. Couples run two hours for the same reason, and it is almost two sessions in one.
Afterwards
Most people feel tired and lighter in roughly that order. Some notice the change straight away and some notice it a week later when a situation arrives and the old reaction does not. I will always tell you what I think is worth doing next, including when I think that is nothing.
Questions people ask about this
- Do I have to tell you the whole story?
- No. Some of this work needs very little detail out loud, which is a relief to people who have told it many times or have never told it at all.
- Will I lose control or be made to do anything?
- No. In hypnotherapy you are awake, aware and in charge throughout, and you will remember the session. Nobody can be made to do something against their values.
- How many sessions will I need?
- It depends entirely on what you bring, and I will not pretend otherwise. A single specific fear can move quickly. Something woven through forty years takes longer. I will give you my honest read after the first session.
- Do you take insurance?
- No. Payment is self-pay only. Individual sessions are ninety minutes at $200 and couples sessions are two hours at $275.
If you are still unsure, the fifteen minute call costs nothing and settles it.
